Listing Your Home During the Holidays. (Yes, You Can Do It!)
Does anyone else feel like we are in the downward slide to the end of the year? With Halloween fast approaching, Thanksgiving will be around the corner and before we know it, here comes Hanukkah and Christmas. Happy New Year!
The last thing we may want to do is put our home on the market – but sometimes it’s out of our control. Job transfers, life changes and other factors may mean it’s time to put the For Sale sign in the yard.
Listing at the end of the year has a couple key advantages:
Less Competition: Typically, there are less homes for sale over the holidays compared to the spring/summer market. Capitalize on this decrease in inventory by pricing to the market.
Motivated Buyers: A buyer who is house hunting over the holidays is serious and motivated too – there’s a reason why they are looking! Buyers needing a tax break are especially motivated before December 31.
A few things to do to put your house in prime market condition:
Decorate in moderation: Hold off on decorating until your professional photography has been completed. Then, pull out a few boxes of decorations to make your home feel festive but not overwhelmed. Remember – moderation is key.
Exterior lighting: With the sun setting earlier, be sure your exterior lights are in good working order. If you use a timer, set it for a little earlier than usual to ensure adequate lighting for after-work showings.
